Health & Safety at Work Etc. Act 1974
Health & Safety at Work Etc. Act 1974
Happy birthday to the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act (HASWA) which is 40 this year.
Since the introduction of the act in 1974 there has been a reduction every year in work related deaths with record low statistics this year. HSE statistics show that from April 2013-March 2014 there were 133 fatal accidents – a drop of 0.44 per 100,000 workers.
The UK has one of Europe’s lowest worker death rates over the last 8 years, so the Act has been very beneficial and will hopefully continue to be a driving force in worker death reduction for many more years to come. UK health and safety qualifications set an incredibly high-benchmark, which is one of the primary reasons why they are sought after by SHE professionals around the world.
