Worldwide Health & Safety Standard
Health & Safety Standards – Worldwide
IOSH recently hosted a meeting to help produce a new workplace Health and Safety Standard. Delegates from across the globe spent a week discussing different classes of the draft standard. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will take into account the delegates suggestions when producing a further draft.
The goal deadline for this new standard, referred to as ISO 45001, is October 2016. The standard, which requires health and safety to be managed in a systematic and integral way, is likely to replace OHSAS18001. The aim of the standard is to improve health and safety performance and drive down the number of deaths, injuries and illnesses caused by work. As not all countries have the same level of social protection, the standard aims to assist them all and ensure everyone is protected.
